Zolpidem ER Warnings

Rarely, after taking this drug, people have gotten out of bed and driven vehicles while not fully awake ("sleep-driving"). People have also sleepwalked, prepared/eaten food, made phone calls, or had sex while not fully awake. Often, these people do not remember these events. This problem can be dangerous (possibly fatal) to you or to others. If you find out that you have done any of these activities after taking this medication, tell your doctor right away. You should not take this medication or similar medications (such as eszopiclone, zaleplon) if you have this reaction to the medication.
  • Take on an empty stomach
  • Read the boxed warning information for this medication.
  • Do not chew or crush before swallowing.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages when using this medication.
  • May cause drowsiness. Alcohol and marijuana may intensify this effect. Use care when operating a vehicle, vessel (e.g., boat), or machinery.
  • Do not operate a vehicle, vessel (e.g., boat) or machinery after you take this medication and the day after you take it.
  • May cause dizziness
  • If you are pregnant or considering becoming pregnant you should discuss the use of this medication with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist before breastfeeding.
  • This medication helps you to fall asleep. Take at bedtime.

Pregnancy Warnings

  • Transplacental transfer has been reported. Neonatal exposure to drug late in the third trimester of pregnancy can result in symptoms of respiratory depression and sedation. Monitor neonates for signs of excess sedation, hypotonia, and respiratory depression and manage accordingly. Animal data suggest developmental toxicity.
