The coronavirus, rising unemployment, and a bumpy political landscape made for an unprecedented 2020. Amidst all the uncertainty, one thing is clear: now more than ever, Americans are turning to RxSaver to make their prescriptions more affordable.

It turns out, not all states are created equal when it comes to prescription drug prices and savings! We analyzed 2020 year-to-date RxSaver coupon redemptions in all 50 states to see who’s saving the most with RxSaver when they visit the pharmacy counter. Below is a visual guide to show where the savviest RxSavers were located state by state and which states saved the most in their prescription costs this year.

Texas Leads With the Most Cumulative Rx Savings

Everything is bigger in Texas, including prescription savings. This year RxSavers across Texas saved a combined $26M and counting thanks to RxSaver coupons^1^. It’s no surprise to us that our home state of Texas led 2020 with the most accumulated prescription savings.

Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, and Tennessee were other big savers. Consumers here used RxSaver at higher than average rates to help offset high Rx costs, saving up to 85% off the retail price on every fill.

Which States Are Saving the Most Per Prescription?

Since prescription prices vary widely by pharmacy and location, coupon savings vary by state. Consumers in the three states listed below used RxSaver to help offset high Rx costs, saving between $149 and $191 per fill^1^!

Rust Belt State Leads Nation in Growth of Rx Savings

We saw increases in prescription coupon usage across nearly all states in 2020, with the biggest increases in coupon savings in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States.

Pennsylvanians saved just over $13 million more in 2020 than 20191 using RxSaver. Ohio boasted the second-largest increase in savings since last year, saving $11 million more^1^ at the pharmacy counter thanks to RxSaver.

Savings For Prescriptions Remain Top of Mind For 2021

The beginning of 2021 will most likely not look much different than the end of 2020, with consideration and the need for savings on prescription costs.

The instability of the economy along with the continued pandemic reminds us that millions are still without insurance and are overpaying for their prescriptions. RxSaver continues to help Americans save significantly on their prescription medications and will continue to be a needed service as we ring in the new year.
