The 2019 RxSaver Health Holiday Report

The holiday season is often a time of celebration and festivities for most of us, but for many Americans, it can be a time of stress, a trigger for flare-ups of a chronic condition, and added financial stress.
RxSaver examined common health trends during the holiday season and found a staggering amount of similarities when it comes to managing health, chronic conditions, and finances during the holiday season.
Some key findings from our research:
85% of Americans overeat during the holidays. LDL cholesterol tends to increase by 20% over the holidays. 47% of Americans are “filled with dread” by the prospect of spending money over the holidays. 38% of people reported increased stress during the holiday season. Sales in the cold and sinus market grew by 4.5% from 2016 to 2017. American adults with diabetes report using an average of 5.9 different prescribed medications. Holiday overindulging can potentially cause a need for using more medicine and supplies than normal.* Over one in three (36%) who currently suffer or have previously suffered from a mental health condition say the holidays would trigger symptoms of their condition.
The above might not be surprising to some but our research shows that the holiday season brings an influx of different health-related concerns, ranging from managing flu symptoms while traveling, increase in anxiety due to family gatherings, and the financial stress of making sure there is enough spendable income on both gifts and prescription medications.
